Intervention Fees are Now Active

Fees for intervention came into play as of 1st October 2012. The fees will hopefully act as a further incentive for employers and the self-employed to ensure their health and safety is up to standard. If you have any concerns about the fees and risk of prosecution, be sure to have the best possible training such as the NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.

What Are the Intervention Fees?

The fees will be payable by anyone that is found to be in breach of the Health and Safety laws and regulations. The fees will cover all sorts of actions that have to be taken by the HSE inspectors. This may involve the costs of the initial inspection, writing up reports, taking interviews, using third party assistance, phone calls, emails and much more. The costs will be requested within thirty days of you receiving the invoice. This will add more pressure onto those who are not complying with the law. Not only will they face the cost of the intervention fee there is also the additional costs of the fines that may be imposed by the courts, the court costs and possible victim surcharge. Companies also need to be concerned about the risk of their injured or ill employees making a claim for compensation that will cost even more money if their personal injury claim is successful.

Avoid the Fees

The best way to ensure that you're not harmed by the fees is by complying with the law. To do this you will need to be aware of the legal system and the techniques that are used to lower the risks and keep employees and the public safe. You will need to be able to show you are doing everything as reasonably practicable to reduce those risks. NEBOSH courses will give you many different skills to achieve this such as:
  • Applying safe methods of work
  • Performing risk assessments
  • Creating fire procedures
  • Controlling hazards
  • Identifying risks and work that contributes to ill health

Professional tutors teach the NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety. They will guide you through all the learning materials and prepare you for the assessment.
