A free event which is designed to educate the public about health and safety training will be held in Charnock Richard, Lancashire on Wednesday 14th of November. This free health and safety training event was spurred by the release of recent figures which stated that a worker either suffers a major injury or is killed on a building site in Lancashire every four days. This shocking statistic underlines the need for more health and safety training within construction businesses in Lancashire.
Free Health and Safety Training Event
The free health and safety training event will bring together approximately 250 construction workers, some of which own their own small firms and others who are self-employed. It will be held at the Park Hall Hotel and Leisure Club. There will be free afternoon or morning sessions, which will feature valuable information about working at height, working with asbestos, respiratory risks and other health and safety issues associated with the construction industry.
The event will feature specialists from the industry as well as the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) who will be there to answer any questions and raise awareness of the key issues that are facing construction workers. They will give practical advice which will help workers to avoid dangers. Of course, this event is not a replacement for a full health and safety training program for a company, but it is a good introduction or refresher of the basics.
Recent Statistics by the HSE
The recent statistics which were released by the Health and Safety Executive have revealed that there were eight deaths and 415 major injuries which were recorded in the county of Lancashire over a five year span from 2007 and 2011. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is the United Kingdom's national regulator of health and safety in the workplace. Its goal is to reduce the number of work related deaths in the workplace, by providing information, promoting health and safety training and working with local authority partners for inspections and enforcement.
Improving Health and Safety in the Workplace
Attending such events as these, as well as committing to a comprehensive health and safety training program in the workplace, will help to lower the risk of death or major injury to workers.
When it comes to health and safety, education and prevention is the most effective strategy, because workers who follow the proper procedures are much less likely to have an accident in the first place.
