The IOSH Awards Honour Safe Companies around the UK

IOSH, the Institution of Safety and Health, has recently hosted their awards ceremony which honoured a number of British companies which have demonstrated a commitment to health and safety. The sixth annual event was held at the Hilton Hotel in London's Park Lane.

IOSH is a British organisation which is for health and safety professionals and was founded in 1945. It holds the event every year to honour the best and the brightest when it comes to workplace safety. It acts as a strong reminder of the importance of managing and training individuals in the workplace about workplace safety.

The organisation has over 40,000 members and is mostly based in the UK. However, IOSH is expanding around the globe with members in over 50 countries and accredits courses at 35 educational institutions in the UK as well as 22 around the world.

As well as setting the professional standard in the UK for health and safety, IOSH also supports and develops its members and has a number of publications which provide guidance and advice on all matters relating to health and safety.

British Companies Honoured With Awards

Many British companies were recognised by IOSH for their commitment to health and safety. Helen Kettle of MerseyTravel has been given the achiever of the year award. The company Crossrail has won the award for transport and logistics.

In the training category, Tube Lines was recognised as the winner and the Tristar Transport Company won the campaign award. The Best Factory Award of 2012 was given to the gas analysis manufacturers known as Anolox. This firm was celebrated for their commitment to the health and safety of their employees.

The IOSH lifetime achievement award was given to Professor Sir Anthony Newman Taylor for his work research the causes of lung disease. This research will help to make workplaces safer and might even save the lives of employees in the future. The IOSH awards are a great event which raises awareness for the importance of health and safety training in the workplace.
